BCL-2
BCL-2 encodes an integral outer mitochondrial membrane protein that blocks apoptotic death in certain cells, such as lymphocytes. Constitutive expression of BCL-2, such as occurs when BCL-2 is translocated to the immunoglobulin (Ig) heavy chain locus, is thought to be a primary driver of follicular lymphoma. BCL-2 exerts its survival function in response to a wide range of apoptotic stimuli by inhibiting the release of mitochondrial cytochrome c. Additionally, it has been implicated in modulating mitochondrial calcium homeostasis and proton flux.
